Home Automation

The home automation system is the set of devices and their connections that perform a specific function using one or more communication supports common to all devices and implementing data communication between them according to a predetermined communication protocol. Level 3 must manage at least 4 of the following functions:

1. Anti-theft / anti-intrusion (level 1 according to the CEI CT 79 standards series);
2. Load control;
3. Light control management;
4. Temperature management (if separate management is not provided);
5. Scenario management (shutters, etc.);
6. Remote control;
7. Sound diffusion system;
8. Fire detection (UNI 9795) if separate management is not provided;
9. Anti-flooding and/or gas detection system.

Simplicity: the home automation system is aimed at a wide and non-professional audience. It is designed to be simple to use through a user-friendly interface or classic buttons.

Quick installation: creating a home automation system takes much less time than a traditional electrical system. Only one cable is laid, equipped with 2 conductors that ensure communication between devices;

  • Continuity of operation: it is built with the idea that it must offer continuous service. For this reason, it is immune to faults or simple to repair even for non-expert personnel in case it needs to be quickly restored to operation;
  • Reliability: the system always works, without requiring special attention. Even in the event of faults, it is able to provide the service for which it was designed or a similar one in case of reduced operation. It is able to signal malfunction and generates a report of any anomalies;
  • Energy saving: an automated system will avoid energy waste due to forgetfulness or other situations, continuously monitoring consumption and managing the operating priorities of electrical appliances;
  • Automation of daily actions: it simplifies some daily actions, especially repetitive ones. It does not complicate or compromise their use.



Environmental control

In the home automation system, environmental control is automated thanks to the presence of a system of sensors and actuators.
This allows for the temperature regulation of individual living spaces according to environmental changes, with the added benefit of constant monitoring of energy consumption; the management of timing and temperature levels is aimed at the desired comfort while achieving maximum energy savings. The same standards of quality and savings apply to the domestic hot water generation system, whether it is a water heater, a boiler, or solar panels.

Lighting

The home automation system must oversee the operation of the heaviest loads (oven, water heater, washing machine, etc.) by managing their controlled disconnection to avoid current overloads and consequent unnecessary blackouts caused by the tripping of the limiter switch on the electricity supply line. It also manages emergency power supply through uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for those devices that must not be turned off in case of a power outage. The same system also checks that the emergency lights operate regularly.

In the field of lighting, the most important requirement is the quality of the lighting itself. In home automation, the key point is what was once the simple manual switch, which is replaced by the electronic switch that acts as a sensor or multifunction local actuator. Also included in this subset of environmental management are the controls for opening or closing shutters or curtains and those for any automatic doors.

Example of functions of an intelligent lighting system

  • Multiple, even automatic, light switches based on the establishment of specific scenarios (e.g. there are guests, we're having a party, I'm watching a DVD);
  • automatic switching on according to patterns copied from real life after automatic recognition of a prolonged absence; centralized switching off or automatic switching off of lights when the absence of users is detected;
  • completely autonomous and automatic management of lighting.
